Happy 18th Birthday to us! Join us for fizz this Saturday 7th December 2019

Yes, I know we look too young and pretty, but we really are 18 this week and to celebrate we've extended our traditional tasting window by a week, so we can crack open some of our marvellous Champagne H. Blin Tradition and raise a glass with our lovely customers and because we love you sooo much, for just this Saturday you'll be able to get the H. Blin Tradition with 10% discount of 2 bottles or if you buy 6, you'll get a 7th absolutely free, with the usual limitations of you paying with debit card or cash! So join us from midday until around 3pm and sing Happy Birthday to us!

Free Tasting Saturday 23rd November 2019

Join us this Saturday for our penultimate tasting of 2019 as we crack open Duncan's Magnificent Seven. With beer, red wine, white wine and even a Port on show, you'd be daft not to join us. Starting at high noon (well ok, just after elevensies) going through till around 3pm, come along and see if we can't find one or even two things to brighten your weekend.

Free Tasting Saturday 16th November 2019

Join us this Saturday for a fortified Greek red, Mavrodafne of Patras, a lovely, rich, Ruby Port-like little number, maybe a little cheese and if you're really good little boys and girls, possibly some mince pies too!

Kicking off just after elevensies, you'd be daft to miss it!

Free Tasting Saturday 26th October 2019 - Napton Cidery

This weekend, Charlotte from Napton Cidery joins us in store to guide us through all of her lovely product.

Like most people, Charlotte and her family started by making cider using apples from their own garden, then since Napton Cidery started they've gone from a simple pressing of 2,000 litres in 2015 to now presing over 45,000 litres! And there's a reason for that, their apples are naturally fermented using wild yeast and slowly matured without any artificial flavourings or preservatives. This leads to a totally natural cider that we fell in love with from the first time we tried it. So join us on Saturday and see if you agree, we think you will!

Free Tasting Saturday 19th October 2019

This week sees us opening a few shop favourites and continuing our celebration of the holy month of 'Hoptober'.

Our red this week is:-

Mother's Ruin Cabernet Sauvignon - Tons of juicy fruits with an emphasis on crunchy, tangy blackcurrants with a note of eucalyptus; this has a lovely freshness and keeps you wanting to go back for more.

Our white this week is:-

Picpoul Roches Saintes - This is classic Picpoul, with refreshing lemon and apple fruit flavours and that glorious ripeness that you only really get from the South of France. A real winner with any fish dinner.

Our beer this week is:-

Tiny Rebel's Cali Pale - A fabulous take on a west coast IPA, this is a beer for sitting in the Califonian sunshine, really juicy with classic tropical fruit and pine flavours and a mango twist. Grab a can, sit back and watch the world go by.

So join us this Saturday from just after elevensies and see if we can't introduce you to a new favourite.

Free Tasting Saturday 5th October 2019

This weeks tasting will feature both grape and grain. October is Rioja month, so both our red and white come from that most popular of Spanish wine regions. Also, this month in store we will be celebrating all things beer, as we move into the month of 'Hop-tober'!

Our red is:-

Ugarte Cuarenta Rioja - Made from 100% Tempranillo, this is aged for 3 months in French oak, has buckets of soft, ripe dark fruits and oodles of spice. Delicious, approachable and quite frankly, yummy!

Our white is:-

Ugarte Rioja Blanco - A nose of floral citrus with herbaceous notes, leads to a pleasant easy-drinker with freshness, elegance and delicacy.

And our beer is:-

Blackpit's Cloud Nine - A light, bright blonde ale, Cloud Nine is a seriously refreshing and quaffable beer. On the palate there is lemon zest and pine kernals, mixed with barley grains and hops. A lovely, easy-drinking session ale.

So join us this Saturday from just after elevensies and find yourselves a new favourite!

Free Tasting Saturday 28th September 2019

Join us this Saturday, as we open 2 'Southern Belles' to tempt you this weekend.

Our red is:-

Aristicratico Valpolicella Ripasso - A classic Ripasso, made from a blend of the Corvina & Rondinella grapes, this is deep and concentrated with an intense bouquet of ripe fruit, sweet cherry and toasted oak. Black cherry on the palate leads to a long, complex and well-intergrated finish.

Our white is:-

Esporao PE Branco - Made from a blend of the native Portuguese grapes Antao Vaz, Arinto and Perrum, this is an easy drinker, with bags of stone fruit, hints of apple and a lovely, refreshing mineral edge. Inexpensive, yet thouroughly delicious!

So join us Saturday and let's see if we can introduce you to a new favourite. Chin, chin.

Free Tasting Saturday 21st September 2019

We've a Prince in store this Saturday, well, The Little Prince at least. 2 wines hailing from the beautiful island of Crete and both quite delicious.

The Little Prince White - Made from idigenous Cretan varieties, Vilana & Vidiano. The Vilano gives pear aromas, whilst the Vidiano is more herbal on the nose and both combine beautifully to give a palate of apricots and peaches.

The Little Prince Red - Also made from indigenous Cretan varieties, Kotsifali & Mandilaria. This is a fruity little number bursting with blackberry, cassis and cherry with a smidge of cinnamon spice. If you like Pinot Noir, this could be right up your street!

Free Tasting Saturday 14th September 2019

This weekend we will be tasting 2 wines from one of our favourite producers. Chile's Casa Silva are the most awarded wine producer in Chile and the 2 wines we are featuring this weekend, will hopefully go some to showing you just why that is.

Our red is Casa Silva Los Lingues Carmenere is a smoky, savoury and black fruited little number, with buckets of blackberry and blackcurrant fruit. Its one of the finest examples of Chilean Carmenere you will find at this price.

Our white is Casa Silva Reserve Viognier, this has bags of personality with notes of nuts, icing sugar & pastries and a richness of peach and apricot fruit, yet has a lovely freshness too. Very tasty stuff!

Free Tasting Saturday 7th September 2019

We're back to our 'Fantastic Fifteen' for our tasting this Saturday and to celebrate the Bank Holiday weekend we're putting on 2 delicious French sparklers and a delightful, but inexpensive Portuguese red.

Cremant de Bourgogne is essentially a 'mini Champagne', with lovely creamy bubbles and a fresh, citrussy palate. A thoroughly delicious and gluggable fizz.

Mustillant sparkling Muscadet is made by one of only 2 producers of sparkling Muscadet and is made in the same way Prosecco is made. A little drier than Prosecco, but has that same Prosecco smile factor.

Esporao PE Red is a ripe fruited beauty from the Alentejo, packed full of strawberry and raspberry fruits and with just a hint of tobacco. Easy drinking and delicious.

So join us this Saturday from midday until 3pm and take home something to enjoy in the Bank Holiday sunshine.

A juicy nose of lemon and anise, leads into a palate with peach, pineapple and honeys flavours in this gorgeous, feather-lite wine, that's great with spicy foods. The 2nd is the Dr. Loosen Esatate Riesling, this is drier than our first offering, but still has those honey notes, but this time combined with lemon, apple and a touch of Flying Saucer sweets, yes that's right, Flying Saucer sweets! So join us this Saturday from 12pm - 3pm (ish) and see which your favourite is.

This Saturday we have 2 very exciting wines on tasting. An Aussie Chardonnay, that owes more to France (think Limoux) than a traditional Australian take on the grape. Mere et Fils, from First Drop, is voluptuous, full bodied, yet still fresh, with a lovely lemon tart, brioche nose, it's bonza mate. Our 2nd wine this weekend is a Riojan rose. Made 100% from Garnacha, this has soft red fruits on the palate, with aromas of the same, plus lilacs and tropical fruit notes, good acidity and a lovely freshness, in short, magnifico. Join us on Saturday between 12pm - 3pm(ish) and see if you like them as much as wee do.

Free Tasting - Saturday 22nd June 2019

This weekend we have an Australian white that thinks it's from Northern Italy and a Languedoc red that thinks it's from the Rhone! Vivo Arneis is another delicious wine from the people at First Drop, using a grape generally found in Northern Italy, but transplanted to the Adelaide Hills, this is crisp, with citrus and apple notes and frankly, delicious. The red is L'Impudent, a classic Rhonian blend of Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault and Mourvedre, but this time transported to the Languedoc. This is ripe fruited, with cherry, dark fruits and hints of spice, yummy stuff. So join us this Saturday from 12pm until 3pm (ish) and pick a favourite imposter!

Free tasting Saturday 15th June 2019

This week sees one of our favourite suppliers, Johnny Bingham of Wine Growers, joining us for our tasting and he's bringing 2 wines with him that are brand new into the shop. So join us on Saturday from 12pm through to 3pm(ish) and find yourself a new favourite wine. See you then, chin chin!

Free Tasting Saturday 8th June 2019

Our white hails from the Pelopennese in Greece. Mustillant is our sparkling Muscadet, made in the Languedoc in the same style as Prosecco, this is drier and crisper, but still has that Prosecco smile factor. The wine  joining it on tasting is Zensa Primitivo, a very ripe fruited belter from Puglia. WIth flavours of cherry, strawberry and dark berries, plus spice and a hint of icing sugar.
